Modernising Business-Critical Voice Infrastructure

Tomago Aluminium partnered with imei to modernise its business-critical voice infrastructure, replacing end-of-life Alcatel-Lucent hardware and voicemail with a supported, future-ready telephony solution designed to minimise operational risk.

What was the challenge?

Tomago Aluminium’s existing Alcatel-Lucent Crystal hardware was approaching end of life, while support for its OpenTouch Message Centre voicemail solution was also being phased out.

With voice infrastructure supporting a large industrial site, Tomago required a safe migration path that would maintain platform functionality and support while minimising disruption to operations.

What was the requirement?

Tomago needed a low-risk, future-ready telephony solution capable of supporting its existing phones while providing a clear path away from ageing infrastructure.

imei conducted an onsite audit covering hardware, cabling, power and upgrade requirements, then translated the findings into multiple migration options to help Tomago select the right architecture for its environment.

What was the solution?

imei designed a migration from the end-of-life Alcatel Crystal environment to supported Alcatel OmniPCX XL rack hardware. The phased-out voicemail platform was replaced with an upgraded, integrated Voice Messaging System.

imei is providing project management, solution build and configuration, physical implementation, testing, go-live support and updated as-built documentation.

What was the outcome?

The project provides Tomago Aluminium with a supported and future-ready voice platform designed to maintain critical telephony functionality while reducing the risks associated with ageing technology.

The solution also protects existing infrastructure investment by reusing cabling where appropriate, while maintaining core telephony and voice messaging technology.
