Upgrading to enterprise ethernet technology for a high-definition streaming future

With the impending disconnection of copper services at all Event Cinemas, Event Hospitality & Entertainment needed to urgently migrate to new technologies. imei researched and designed a scalable solution that mitigates risk now and supports content delivery innovations in the future.

Challenge

With the imminent exit date of copper services, Event Hospitality & Entertainment urgently needed to minimise disruptions to its business and migrate to new technologies. Along with mitigating the risk of disconnection, the business needed to underpin the delivery of high-definition movie experiences to avoid disappointing customers. The business was also relying on copper-based networks for its internet and phone services, meaning the disconnection would also impact its corporate data communications.

Requirements

The project scope involved a data network refresh onto enterprise ethernet at 65 sites as part of a major network upgrade for the company’s cinemas. And for the team at Event Hospitality & Entertainment, it was important to exercise network agnosticism in terms of not being tied to a particular vendor.

Solution

imei recommended Enterprise Ethernet from Telstra with imei Professional Services project managing the network configuration and setup and managing the deployment. This provided Event Hospitality & Entertainment with one point of contact for leading the design and deployment as well as simplifying its relationship with Telstra and nbn.

Outcome

Rolling out the solution over 24 months, Event Hospitality & Entertainment has increased bandwidth to all sites, reducing file transfer and general network latency, supporting high-definition movie experiences. No longer at risk of network disconnection, the technology upgrade also allows the company to be future ready and prepared for the new world of content streamed directly from distributors in the United States.
